› Balos Lagoon - Gramvousa islands

Nothing can compare to this paradise. In the northwest corner of Crete in the Gramvousa peninsula, located the beautiful and popular Balos Lagoon, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. The beach has very nice white and red sand, while in the centre there is a small lagoon with turquoise waters. Opposite the Balos Lagoon are two small islands, Gramvousa and wild Gramvousa, the first is quite small and rocky, the other is much larger and features a castle built by the Venetians.

How to get to Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa:

If you want to visit these two islands and the beach of Balos starting from our hotel in Kissamos on Crete, you can get one of the boats that organize daily cruises, departing from the port of Kissamos. The port refrains just 1.5 kilometres from the Guest house Kaliviani. Also you can go by car, on your motorcycle, by bicycle or on foot always starting from the village Kaliviani, drive 9 km to the end of the road and then follow the path and in minutes you will see the paradise that is the Balos Lagoon and Gramvousa.

› Elafonisi

On the southwest coast runs one of the island’s most beautiful beaches in Crete, Elafonisi is piece of paradise. Our hotel near Elafonisi beach is located only 50 minutes driving with your car, one of its key features of Elafonisi is the sand dunes with white sand, crystal clear waters which have turned pink from the thousands of shells shattered over the years which give a special appearance to the beach. › Falassarna

The beach lies in northwest Crete and is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete and Greece. Falassarna beach has thick white sand with turquoise crystal waters, and the most beautiful sunsets on the island. A very short distance away, one can view the ruins of the ancient city Falassarna, and the ancient port of Polirinia, the name of which was derived from the nymph Falassarna.

How to get to Falassarna:

In order to reach Falassarna beach you must get to Platano and from there turn north towards Kavousi by following the signs. › Paleochora

Located in the southwest part of Crete is a small town, where you will find two wonderful beaches with crystal clear waters. Both have been awarded the Blue Flag by the European Union. You can also visit many other beaches near the site which are less known. In Paleochora you can find restaurants, cafes and many shops including banks and supermarkets. There are several routes, such as the European path E4 & E1, there is also daily sea transportation for Sougia, Agia Roumeli, Sfakia, Elafonisi and Gavdos.

› Samaria Gorge

The Samaria Gorge is the largest in Europe totalling 18 kms in length and its width ranges from 150 to 3 meters. The entrance to the gorge is situated in Xiloskalo, which is the highest point of the plateau with an altitude of 1200 meters. Walking through the gorge, not rushing, takes 6-8 hours. From there begins a magical journey, where the landscape reveals the greatness of nature, countless shades of green, huge ancient cypress trees, crystal clear drinking water, huge rocks and tall mountains. It is estimated that within the Samaria Gorge, there are 450 species of herbs, 70 of which only grow there. In 1962, it was declared a national park in order to protect the rare flora and fauna. It is the location where the Cretan wild goat named Kri Kri lives in addition to many rare bird species. In the middle of the walk is the village of Samaria which is currently uninhabited. Now the landscape is changing, both sides of the gorge have come very close together at a distance of 3 meters and 600 meters in height. Passing the narrow passage at the bottom you see the blue sea, after reaching the village of Agia Roumeli, the gorge is over and now you're in the Libyan Sea. Bathing after this long walk is sublime on a beautiful sandy beach with black pebbles in the crystal clear sea.

› Chania

Chania town is the capital of the prefecture of Chania, located in the north eastern part of the island and is built on the ruins of ancient Kydonia. Many argue that it is the most beautiful and picturesque town of Crete and in Greece, and many cultural events take place each year. The airport is located in Akrotiri and Souda Bay is the largest port in the Mediterranean. Downtown you can see the Municipal Market which takes the shape of a cross, built like the market in Marseille. A very short distance from the centre of town is the Public Garden adjacent to the park ‘Peace and Friendship’. The picturesque Venetian harbour is an attraction for visitors and locals, renowned for its beauty and choice of entertainment for all tastes and requirements. The old city inside the walls keep the Venetian nobility, the narrow cobblestone streets are surrounded by tasteful renewed houses, leading to the Venetian harbour and offering a pleasant walks. The Venetian port has many restaurants, cafes and tourist shops.

› Venetian port of Chania

Chania’s Venetian Port is one of the most important areas in the city of Chania. It was constructed between 1320 and 1356 by the Venetians to protect the city. The lighthouse is the hallmark of the city. Main elements in the exceptional architecture are the surrounding buildings, narrow streets, and a Turkish mosque and a little further afield, the old shipyards, where the Venetians built their ships. To the left of the harbour is the fortress of Bastion next to the Maritime Museum. Today it is one of the most developed tourist attractions in Chania with many restaurants, taverns, cafes and bars along the sea. Especially at night the view is fantastic!

› Kissamos (Kastelli)

Kissamos or Kastelli Kissamou is a very beautiful town with a population of about 10,000 habitants. As the whole of Crete, Kissamos has a long history and is sealed with legends and traditions. It offers at its guests the silence and the peace, away from the noisy big cities. It is a welcoming area that every visitor on his holidays, keeping up to date with their manners and customs of Cretan traditions.

Pleasant and hospitable people, always willing to help all visitors to have that! Kissamos has a port. The port of Kissamos is the link to the island of Kythira and Kalamata, Gytheio and Piraeus. Kissamos (Kastelli) refrains from Chania 38 km or 35 minutes driving. It is a city for short or long getaways.
